Who are we

Clover Genetics focuses on the utilization of our national telehealth services to increase accessibility to genetic healthcare. We partner directly with patients, providers, and the community at large to provide genetic counseling, facilitate genetic testing, or offer other personalized solutions.

While our clinical work drives our business, our efforts to provide accurate education to individuals on the impacts of genetic disease, health disparities, disability, and scientifically backed holistic healthcare aims to build trust within our community surrounding our approach to wellness. Our patients are always provided answers and resources for any and all questions surrounding the genetic impact on health.

The Clover Genetics team understands that an individual’s healthcare journey does not end after their genetic counseling sessions. We believe that identifying resources for mental health support and other services can reduce the burden on our patients to coordinate their own follow-up care.

Working with physicians to assist in improving the utilization of clinically appropriate genetic testing is a fulfilling part of Clover Genetics’ work that improves outcomes for the individuals it impacts. Everything we do is with the aim of maintaining a patient-focused and supportive care model and we strive to create an open space for our patients to ask for the assistance they need.

Andy McCarty, MS, CGC
Founder | Chief Executive Officer
Certified Genetic Counselor

Andy’s master’s thesis focused the use of alternative methods of obtaining a family history and the potential telehealth has to improve access to genetics healthcare and wellness.

This passion for breaking barriers to genetic counseling services through the use of telehealth is what inspired Andy to launch Clover Genetics.

His firsthand experience with the psychosocial aspects involved in the critical process of educating patients and families on genetic disease is what drew Andy to genetic counseling. Andy helps patients feel supported in taking an active role in their wellness.

Andy has clinical experience working in numerous areas of genetics specialties including pediatrics, oncology, and neuromuscular disorders, among others, in both academic hospital settings and private practice environments.

He is an active member of the local Pittsburgh Genetics community including a faculty appointment as a supervisor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health where he mentors students and lectures to interested groups. He is well published in both scientific journals and book chapters. When he’s not working, Andy loves rollerblading, nature, gardening, and being outdoors!

Rachel Baer, MSc
Co-Founder | Chief Operations Officer
Director of Education

Rachel has cultivated her professional experience for over a decade in a variety of settings. From animal husbandry, retail, operations management, education, laboratory research, and oversight of genetic testing, Rachel's diverse resume has uniquely suited her for the broad range of challenges that come with business operations, education, and mentorship.

Her academic pursuits have spanned public health, preventative wellness, molecular genetics, and, of course, genetic counseling. Her passion for empowering individuals to understand their options, advocate for their needs, and feel confident in their decisions are core drivers for her role with Clover Genetics.

Rachel lives with a dynamic disability, meaning she has chronic syndromes that vary in severity daily. Combatting ableism through providing education on the realities, challenges, and experiences of the disabled is one aspect of her work that Rachel finds the most rewarding. Outside of work, Rachel loves to bird watch, paint, crochet, and spend time with her dog and fiancé.

With compassion, patience, and individual attention, Rachel aims to provide support to future genetic counselors, educators, and allied health professionals through Clover Genetics' internship and mentorship programs with the aim of inspiring students to develop a holistic and patient-centric approach to care.
