Who can benefit from PGx testing?
Understanding a person’s genes and variations will aid in identifying which drugs and doses are best suited for each individual and reduce the risk of adverse drug reactions. Those who have had an adverse reaction to a drug before or have taken multiple medications without a beneficial response may benefit from PGx.
Most individuals will need medication at some point, so PGx can provide useful information for guiding current and future medication decisions between patients and their physicians.
Some Drug Types with Testable Metabolic Pathways Include:
Anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs)
Antibiotics
Anticoagulant medicine for cardiovascular diseases (ex. heparin, warfarin)
Psychiatric drugs (antidepressants, antipsychotics, etc.)
Cannabis
